The public sector as critical infrastructure (KRITIS)
Server rooms, IT safes and data centers represent a central collection point for administrative services and sensitive as well as confidential information in public institutions. In the event of failure or impairment of this infrastructure, lasting supply bottlenecks, significant disruptions to public safety or other dramatic consequences occur. For this reason, these IT infrastructures require special protection and fail-safe design and are even subject to special technological and regulatory frameworks of the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI), the so-called "critical infrastructures" (KRITIS).

The basic IT protection developed by the BSI offers authorities a systematic procedure for identifying and implementing security measures.
