What began as a raffle at our 20th anniversary celebration turned into something truly meaningful: together with our employees, partners, guests, and many people who continued to donate afterward, we were able to raise enough funds to make a school construction project in Kenya possible.
In Kidzangoni near Ukunda, Kenya, the Likunda Primary School was expanded. Three new classrooms and an office will now provide around 600 children aged 6 to 11 with a safe place to learn. For many of them, this means shorter journeys, smaller class sizes, better support, and the chance for a future where education opens doors.
The construction is being carried out in close partnership with the FLY & HELP foundation, which is committed to improving education in structurally disadvantaged regions. Our joint project in Kenya becomes part of the impressive success story of founder Reiner Meutsch and his organization.
With a planned construction period of around four months and a project budget of €48,000, this is not just a building, it is a place where disadvantaged children are given a future.
Project Milestones
Start of construction: Laying the foundation for the future
At the beginning, the foundation trenches were excavated, the foundations were built, and the base slab was prepared, all through precise manual work.
Walls, community, and progress
Just a few weeks later, the walls were almost fully completed. Particularly remarkable: the active involvement of the local community. Two single mothers from Kidzangoni have been working on the project from the very beginning, mixing concrete, shaping stones, and helping with transportation.
Final stretch: Learning comes closer
Shortly before the end of 2025, the roof was completed and the facades were plastered. Interior work had already begun, and the school was increasingly taking shape.
Move-in to the classrooms
As early as January, the new classrooms were ready for use. The children were thrilled and are learning with great enthusiasm! To celebrate the day, there was fruit, lemonade, and pastries.
Official opening
On March 4, 2026, the school was officially inaugurated. With dancing and music, the children and around 40 FLY & HELP guests celebrated the new “DCG Wing” with three new classrooms and an office.
