Groundbreaking ceremony marks start of new data center construction in Schwalbach
Data Center Group launches construction phase for major project for noris network AG in the Rhine-Main region
Data Center Group (DCG) and noris network AG celebrated the official launch of a new data center project in Schwalbach am Taunus with a groundbreaking ceremony held yesterday. Acting as the general contractor, DCG is delivering the large-scale facility in Germany’s economically strong Rhine-Main region on behalf of noris network AG.
Around 50 invited guests gathered for the event at the future data center site. Following the reception and get-together, Philip Sokolowski from Schwalbach’s economic development agency opened the official program. Additional welcoming remarks were delivered by representatives of the noris network AG Executive Board.
The symbolic groundbreaking ceremony followed. It was designed around a time capsule: attendees were invited to write down their personal wishes for the project on site. These messages were collected and placed inside the time capsule. The capsule was then buried as a symbol of the ceremonial start of construction.
Construction begins on major infrastructure project
With construction now underway, the project has entered its next phase. The new sustainable data center is being developed in Schwalbach am Taunus, in close proximity to DCG’s Frankfurt office. The contract ranks among DCG’s most significant projects in the current fiscal year.
As general contractor, DCG is responsible for the complete realization of the facility, including the delivery of a sophisticated infrastructure project designed for high availability, energy efficiency, and sustainable operations. All required permits have been secured, including the building permit and approval under Germany’s Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG).
Sustainability and performance at the core
The planned data center will provide an IT load capacity of 20 megawatts and a total power connection capacity of up to 25 - 30 MVA. Approximately 7,000 square meters (75,000 square feet) of white space are planned. A target Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of below 1.2 underscores the project’s strong focus on energy efficiency.
The sustainability concept includes sourcing 100 % renewable electricity, on-site solar power generation through photovoltaic systems, and infrastructure readiness for future waste heat recovery. A timber facade and green facade elements are also planned to help integrate the building into its surrounding environment.

Representing DCG at the event alongside Ralf Siefen were Markus Böhmer, CTO, and Christian Tigges, Construction Project Manager. Following the ceremony, guests had the opportunity to exchange ideas and network. The event concluded with refreshments and informal networking at the project site.
