Burger Küchenmöbel GmbH, a leading manufacturer of kitchen furniture based in Burg, Saxony-Anhalt, employs around 1,200 people and produces 500 kitchens every day. As part of the baumann group, the company is one of the top 5 manufacturers of kitchen furniture in Germany. The company decided to implement a new data center in order to adapt its IT infrastructure to the constantly growing requirements and to create redundancy for high availability. The target was to create a secure, energy-efficient and future-proof solution that also reduces the company's carbon footprint.

The selection process

Burger Küchenmöbel GmbH found the Data Center Group (DCG) while researching on the Internet and then held talks with one of DCG's reference customers, Hörter Tonwarenfabrik. “We contacted one of your customers on our own initiative to find out about their experience with your solution,” reports Jörn Leine, Head of IT Service & Infrastructure at Burger Küchenmöbel. In 2022, DCG implemented a micro data center for the medium-sized company based in Ransbach-Baumbach in Rhineland-Palatinate.
The positive exchange as well as the comprehensive and competent advice ultimately decided to choose DCG as a partner. “I compared several providers, but I had the best consultation and the best instinctive feeling with DCG,” adds Jörn Leine.

Requirements and project implementation

The new data center solution, the compact DC IT Safe, had to be implemented within a tight time frame during the company vacations so as not to affect production. “Our production processes are completely dependent on a stable IT infrastructure. A delay would have been critical,” explains Leine.
The Micro Data Center was installed underneath an existing server room. This solution not only guarantees the greatest possible security and redundancy, but also short cabling routes and the associated efficiency benefits. Particular attention was paid to energy-efficient air conditioning and a redundant power supply in order to maximize both the availability and sustainability of the system.
The installation went smoothly and efficiently. “The fitters were on site 20 minutes before delivery and prepared everything perfectly. It was a collaboration where I didn't have to worry about anything,” praises Jörn Leine. Small additions, such as additional labeling required on cabinets, were implemented quickly and professionally.
A delightful anecdote illustrates the employees' satisfaction with the new solution: the DC IT safe is affectionately known internally as “Franz Jäger”, in reference to the legendary safe brand from the Olsen Gang films - a synonym for security and reliability.

Advantages of the new security solution

The implementation of the new infrastructure has significantly improved the availability of the IT systems. Even in the event of power failures, the systems will remain in operation without disruption in future, which, according to Jörn Leine, gives a feeling of reassurance as everything is working exactly as planned. The key benefits include safeguarding productivity through a stable and reliable IT infrastructure that operates smoothly even in the event of power failures, as well as high cost efficiency thanks to significantly reduced energy and construction costs compared to conventional server rooms. The solution also offers technical efficiency thanks to optimally connected server rooms with short cable runs and contributes to sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint of the overall solution through the use of energy-efficient cooling.

Conclusion

“If we plan another project like this in the future, we know who to turn to,” summarizes Jörn Leine. “The professional cooperation and the excellent technical solution have fully convinced us.”
Thanks to the collaboration with the Data Center Group, Burger Küchenmöbel GmbH has been able to implement a state-of-the-art, secure and sustainable IT infrastructure that is perfectly tailored to the requirements of a leading industrial company.
