The LEITWERK Group consists of LEITWERK AG and its subsidiaries. In addition to the LEITWERK campus in Appenweier-Urloffen, the group is represented at the Freiburg, Strasbourg, Achern, Karlsruhe, Mannheim and Potsdam sites with over 370 employees. In 2017, the group of companies generated sales of 63 million euros. Its customers include medium-sized companies, as well as major international corporations and public institutions.

As a technology-based management consultancy, the LEITWERK Group has a responsibility to its customers to successfully shape their future. In Baden, the Palatinate and Alsace, it is one of the leading partners for comprehensive IT and communications solutions. The consulting services are provided by ten specialized market-active content companies. Innovative ability, reliability and a special feeling for topics of the future form the foundation for good company results, especially in the IT sector. On this basis, the LEITWERK Group has been developing successfully with sustainable strategies for more than 25 years.

E-Werk Mittelbaden, with its more than 100-year history, is the leading service and electricity supplier for business and private customers in the Ortenau region. The municipally owned company is increasingly focusing on renewable power generation from water, wind and sun and is using the potential in the region for this purpose. The company employs around 300 people and provides training for industrial clerks and electronics technicians specializing in energy and building technology.

For the joint construction of the first of two planned data centers, the two companies founded a joint venture, LEITWERK Rechenzentren Appenweier GmbH. The company was looking for a provider that would act as a general contractor and thus offer all services from a single source.

In recent years, the technical, organizational and legal requirements for the operation of data centers have become increasingly higher and more complex. In addition, the requirements for security are continuously increasing. This is especially true for so-called critical infrastructures (CRITIS), which also include E-Werk Mittelbaden as an energy supplier, report Jürgen Thoma and Ralf Schaufler, managing directors of LEITWERK Rechenzentren Appenweier GmbH.

In order to meet these requirements, a partner with extensive experience and special expertise in IT was needed, emphasizes Jürgen Thoma. In addition to the construction, LEITWERK was also looking for a partner to operate the new data center, which will meet the highest TÜV, ISO and DIN standards.

The company had already worked together with the Data Center Group in a trusting and successful manner. "As part of the search for the construction and operation of our new data center, it was important for us to work with professionals who understand us and who know what makes us tick," Thoma emphasizes. "We are convinced of Data Center Group's competence and look forward to working with them. We looked at some realized projects and received consistently positive feedback from the contacts. This convinced us that we had found the right partner in Data Center Group. We are regionally rooted and this also applies to our solutions. This is another reason why we chose Data Center Group," reports IT Manager Thoma.

The first site is scheduled for completion in August 2019. The data center being built will consist of a room-in-room solution from Data Center Products, the DC IT Room Quartzite, which will be integrated into a hall as a protective shell for the IT infrastructure. Other companies will also be able to house their servers in the new data center - a forward-looking colocation model. In this way, LEITWERK offers its customers the highest standard of data security and availability. The DCM Delivery monitoring system monitors the IT infrastructure and will ensure the long-term efficiency of the data center on the basis of its determined energy key figures, while at the same time guaranteeing the permanent availability and security of the IT infrastructures through its integrated alarm and fault workflows.
