SWU's new data center relies on modern technology and the highest security standards

After two years of construction, the new data center of Stadtwerke Ulm/Neu-Ulm is now complete. This state-of-the-art data center will provide companies in the region with a wide range of IT services. To mark this milestone, the Data Center Group, as the responsible general contractor, symbolically handed over the key to SWU on 27.03.2025. In addition to the 2nd Mayor of Neu-Ulm Johannes Stingl and the Lord Mayor of Ulm Martin Ansbacher, SWU Managing Director Klaus Eder, SWU TeleNet Managing Director Henning Krone and the Chief Technical Officer of Data Center Group Markus Böhmer were also present.

Ulm's Mayor Martin Ansbacher said at the key handover ceremony: “The decision to further expand this innovative technology location here in Ulm once again demonstrates the attractiveness of our city as a business and science hub. The Science Park is an important driver for the development of future-oriented technologies, and we are proud that companies will find the ideal conditions for growth and innovation here.”
The Mayor of Neu-Ulm, Katrin Albsteiger, agrees: “Ulm and Neu-Ulm are an economically strong, future-oriented twin city. Projects such as SWU's new data center are proof of this. The exchange between business, science and the cities is a key success factor. The new developments in the Science Park will not only create highly qualified jobs, but also further strengthen the innovative power of the entire region.”

New business areas for SWU

Klaus Eder sees great potential for the future: “The investment in a state-of-the-art and innovative data center is a decisive step for SWU. It strengthens our market position in the long term, opens up new business areas and ensures long-term growth in a rapidly developing environment. With their strong economic infrastructure and the innovative atmosphere in the Science Park, Ulm and Neu-Ulm offer us the ideal basis for the further development of Stadtwerke.”
Henning Krone is convinced of the data center's performance: “With its innovative technology, our new data center is a real power house. With a server area of 400 square meters, we are setting standards in the industry and proving that modern data housing is also possible regionally. We also attach great importance to sustainable and, as far as possible, climate-neutral operation. Finally, I would like to thank the Data Center Group on behalf of SWU. This partner supported us from the planning stage through to completion with their expertise and commitment.”
The renowned Ulm architect Adrian Hochstrasser, whose creative concept made a significant contribution to the modern design and functional architecture of the building, also congratulated SWU on handing over the keys to the new data center.

Secure, efficient and regional

With the data center in Ulm Science Park, SWU TeleNet offers companies and public institutions a state-of-the-art, secure and energy-efficient IT infrastructure on site. It is operated with 100 percent natural electricity from our own renewable sources. With certified high availability (TSI Level 3, DIN EN 50600 Level 3) and comprehensive security measures such as access control with 2-factor authentication right into the server rack, video surveillance and fire protection systems, it guarantees reliable operation of business-critical systems. Thanks to a redundant power supply, a 1.6 MW emergency diesel generator and state-of-the-art cooling, the data center also offers high energy efficiency (PUE < 1.3). Flexible colocation options give companies the opportunity to house their own data centers in SWU's data center. Thanks to the pioneering network connection, which is only made possible by fiber optic technology, users can access high-performance and stable data transmission at all times. Optional additional services such as on-site technical support or backup solutions are also available.
