Shielded Micro Data Centers for secure on-premises IT

The DC IT Shielding in the DC IT Safe creates a shielded environment for your micro data center. This allows you to specifically protect your data from

protected from external electromagnetic interference. At the same time, this prevents sensitive signals from unintentionally leaking to the outside.

Typical applications

Rack-based shielding solutions are primarily used in situations where individual systems require special protection:

  • critical infrastructure, particularly government agencies and security, military, and defense facilities
  • Research and development environments
  • ibm-security
    particularly sensitive corporate data centers

Benefits of DC IT Shielding Safe

Targeted protection for sensitive systems

The shielding focuses on particularly critical IT components, thereby enabling effective protection of individual systems.

Compact and ready for use in no time

As a shielded micro data center, the DC IT Shielding Safe takes up very little space and can be quickly integrated into existing IT environments.

Efficient implementation of stringent security requirements

Shielding at the rack level allows security requirements to be met without the need for structural modifications to entire server rooms.

Construction of shielded micro data centers

The DC IT Shielding Safe is based on the robust design of the DC IT Safe and features an electromagnetically shielded enclosure. Doors, ventilation elements, and cable and media feed-throughs are integrated into the shielding structure.

The result is a compact, highly secure micro data center that provides physical protection and effective shielding for sensitive IT systems.

The picture shows a metal structure consisting of a flat, grey metal plate into which numerous screws have been fitted at regular intervals. The screws are arranged in several rows and ensure a secure connection between the individual components. In the centre of the plate is an elongated, rectangular cut-out fitted with a fine-mesh metal grille. This grille appears to serve as a ventilation or filter opening. The surface of the metal appears smooth and slightly glossy, with small reflections of light on the screw heads. Overall, the object gives a robust, industrial impression.

Technical implementation of rack shielding

With the DC IT Safe, the shielding structure is integrated directly into the rack infrastructure. The IT cabinet forms a closed shielding structure within which the installed systems operate.

To ensure that this protective effect functions reliably, all of the system’s interfaces must be taken into account from a technical standpoint. These include the power supply, data cables and cooling.

Thanks to specially designed cable entries and filters, these connections can be integrated without compromising the protective effect.

An effective shielding design is always based on a closed structure. That is why all components of the DC IT Safe are technically coordinated:

  • Faraday cage for the entire system
  • Shielding via filters for cable and data lines
  • Filters for ventilation and cooling

Shielding components

In addition to the shield structure itself, numerous technical components are required to create a shielded enclosure.

A fully enclosed cell provides a stable and secure environment for continuous shielding and reliably prevents electromagnetic interference from entering or exiting.

Shielded doors consist of a metal frame with special contact mechanisms that establish a continuous conductive connection to the shielding structure when the door is closed. The contact surfaces clean themselves during opening and closing, ensuring that the shielding functions reliably over the long term.

Ventilation must also be integrated into the shielding concept. For this purpose, special honeycomb ventilation elements are used. These consist of a structure of metallic waveguides that allow airflow while attenuating electromagnetic signals.

Power, data, and media lines must also be routed through the shielding structure in a controlled manner. For this purpose, special feedthroughs or so-called feed-through panels are used. These allow for the integration of power and data cables without compromising the shielding effectiveness.

Surface shielding

Depending on the requirements, different materials can be used for surface shielding:

Steel sheet cabin

The interior of a metal cabinet with a bolted panel, six connections and sturdy struts, finished to a high standard with clean, precise workmanship.
  • Shielding cabins made of 2 mm galvanized steel form a closed Faraday structure and reliably protect against electromagnetic radiation across high frequency ranges
  • Prefabricated steel modules allow the cabin to be installed quickly and adapted or expanded to meet individual room and project requirements
  • Corrosion-protected steel sheets and precisely manufactured connection systems ensure high stability, long-term tightness, and reliable operation in daily use

Copper foil

Kupferfolie
  • Copper foil with a thickness of 0.2–0.3 mm achieves shielding attenuation of >100 dB in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 10 GHz.
  • Continuous, lead-free soft soldering creates a closed and particularly dense shielding enclosure.
  • The tightly soldered copper construction simultaneously acts as a reliable vapor barrier from a building physics perspective.

Verified shielding performance

Our shielding solutions provide tested and guaranteed shielding performance. Each solution is validated through precise shielding attenuation measurements (verification measurement and acceptance measurement) conducted by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
