Innovative and sustainable cooling solutions

Cold-water air cooling with direct liquid cooling

The combination of CW cooling and direct liquid cooling merges traditional systems with modern server-level liquid cooling. While the CW system efficiently handles the base load of room cooling, particularly power-intensive components such as CPUs and GPUs are cooled directly via liquid circuits. This enables even high power densities and AI workloads to be operated reliably and energy-efficiently.

Direct Liquid Cooling enables power densities ranging from 25 kW to well over 150 kW per rack. Heat is absorbed directly at the hotspots within the server and removed from the rack via CDU or InRack DLC systems. Supplementary air cooling systems such as sidecoolers or in-row coolers handle any remaining loads.

Possible versions

  • Direct Liquid Cooling via Cold Plate Technology
  • InRack DLC units up to 150 kW per rack
  • Sidecoolers as supplementary air cooling
  • Primary/secondary circuits with water-based heat dissipation
  • Scalable HPC, GPU, and AI clusters
  • Combination of air and liquid cooling

Outdoor units using propane and indoor chillers

Modern data centers are increasingly relying on outdoor propane cooling systems in combination with indoor chillers. The natural refrigerant R290 (propane) is used exclusively in the outdoor units, while an efficient and safe chilled water system inside the building handles the cooling of the IT equipment. The generated cooling is transported via water circuits to CRAH systems, in-row coolers, or direct liquid cooling systems. Separating the refrigerant and building circuits creates a high-performance, sustainable, and future-proof cooling architecture for modern data centers.

Possible versions

  • Outdoor units with R290 propane technology
  • Indoor chillers or hydraulic distribution systems
  • Combination with indirect free cooling
  • Supply to CRAH, InRow, or Sidecooler systems
  • Integration of DLC/CDU systems for high-density racks
  • Redundant design up to N+1 or 2N

Direct free cooling

Direct free cooling uses cool outside air to regulate the temperature of IT infrastructures in an energy-efficient manner—largely without the need for conventional refrigeration. The treated air is specifically used to dissipate heat in the data center, thereby significantly reducing energy consumption and operating costs. The result is a high-performance, sustainable, and future-proof cooling architecture for modern data centers.

Intelligent UPS Systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply)

UPS systems protect IT equipment from power outages. Modern, sustainable UPS systems are significantly more efficient, using long-lasting batteries and intelligent controls to minimize energy consumption and extend their service life.

Higher efficiency

Modern UPS systems use wide-bandgap semiconductors and advanced electronics to minimize conversion losses. This lowers power consumption and reduces heat generation (and thus the need for cooling).

portfolio
Long-lasting batteries

Lithium batteries offer significantly more charge cycles, require less maintenance, and have a more compact design than traditional lead-acid batteries—which improves service life, total cost of ownership, and sustainability.

Intelligent PDU (Power Distribution Units)

Smart PDUs manage power distribution within the rack while providing detailed consumption data. They enable targeted control and monitoring to reduce energy waste and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.

increase-level
Remote management and scalability

Outlet- or device-level switching reduces unnecessary energy consumption and enables proactive load management, such as turning off unused devices outside of operating hours.

watson-health--magnify
Transparent energy efficiency through smart metering

Modern PDUs enable precise, real-time monitoring of energy consumption, thereby providing maximum transparency in the data center. This helps improve energy efficiency, optimize resource allocation, and support decarbonization goals in a sustainable manner.
