Building Information Modeling (BIM)

The digital twin for precise planning:

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is used to plan and control construction processes. Virtual models are used to create a digital twin of your data center. This digital information enables buildings to be planned and constructed holistically, and monitored throughout their entire life cycle.

The model collects and makes all information usable. This ensures that everyone involved in the project is always up to date on the current status. The model is used from the outset of the construction process and provides information about potential issues. This enables potential problems to be identified and resolved as early as possible, before they can result in high costs or delays on the construction site.

Data centers present particular challenges due to their high technical complexity, requiring precise cooling concepts, a redundant power supply, optimal use of space and sustainable design. BIM offers significant advantages and use cases that facilitate planning.

BIM models can simulate and predict the energy consumption, CO₂ emissions and thermal behaviour of data centers, providing key sustainability metrics. They also enable CO₂ balancing of all materials prior to construction and analyse emissions during construction and operation.

The geometric data from the model is linked to the traditional construction schedule to simulate progress and highlight potential bottlenecks or delays early on.

Exact quantity specifications are generated based on the geometric and alphanumeric data of a BIM model. These can then be used for cost estimates and tenders, increasing the accuracy of such calculations and minimising errors.

Once a construction project is complete, BIM models can be used for building inventory documentation and facility management. These digital representations of the real building provide a detailed basis for maintenance, renovation and management.
