At the end of 2017, EnelPS d.o.o., a Data Center Group partner in Serbia, was commissioned by a public sector institute to build a high-availability data center with electromagnetic shielding. The customer required EM shielding of at least 120 dB in the range 400 MHz to 6 GHz according to IEEE 299 for its new data center. An effective solution was then designed together with its partner EMShield, a subsidiary of Albatross Projects GmbH, whose focus is on architectural shielding technology.
The project went off without a hitch. First, a fire protection enclosure was built that could be expanded and reassembled at the same time. Then, within just three days, EMShield installed the DC IT Shielding solution.
This high-frequency enclosure protects IT from outside electrical and magnetic interference as well as radiation from inside. It offers a guaranteed shielding attenuation value up to 40 GHz as well as modular construction with 2 mm thick steel plate modules. It is also BSI-compliant and system-tested according to EN 50147, NSA 65-6, IEEE-STD 299. To allow cables and pipes for cooling, power and data into the room, suitable filters were used to guarantee almost 100% (99.99%) shielding. After the final measurements, it was found that the shielding efficiency was even greater than expected. It reached 131 dB in the 400 MHz-6 GHz range according to IEEE 299. The Serbian customer is now sure that potential attackers cannot gain access to its data and that the data is safe from electromagnetic threats.
