Hello everyone,

My name is Paul and I am completing an apprenticeship as a technical systems planner at DCG.

Now that my first year of training is over, I would like to tell you about a visit to a data center in Duisburg. This day was a valuable and very interesting experience for me. You can find out more about my experiences in my first year of training and reports from my fellow trainees here.

An exciting day began early in the morning.

After arriving in Duisburg, Stefan Leyener (project manager), the representative of the data center, and I first looked at the emergency power supply to check whether the connection cables were connected correctly. The connections were then measured.

We then moved on to the stress tests (a software test that places a very high load on the system under test and examines its behavior) and supplied the upper floor with 900 kW of power. Once the room had reached the correct temperature, we started the test and switched off the recirculating air conditioning system (closed air handling system) at the end of the row. This caused the temperature in the sensor area to rise due to heat accumulation (slow and gentle heat). After switching the recirculating air conditioning system back on, the temperature returned to normal. Next, the failure of the UPS B (uninterruptible power supply) was tested. There was no significant temperature difference here, but the temperature rose over a much larger range.
