Today's trainees – tomorrow's skilled workers

The first weeks of training at the Data Center Group
News | 16.08.2022

May we introduce ourselves?

Melina is training to become an industrial clerk, just like Svetlana. Armagan is following in their footsteps and training to become an industrial clerk. Paul and Melina are training to become technical system planners. We all started our training on August 1, 2022. Rafael and Marvin are already a little further along in their training as industrial clerks. Marvin is in his second year of training and Rafael is in his third. Both of them have lots of interesting things to report.

Melina - Training as a technical industrial planner

Melina's first weeks at the Data Center Group – lots of new impressions

My name is Melina. I am currently in my first year of training at the Data Center Group to become an electrical systems planner, and I would like to tell you a little about how I started my training.

I found out about the training position through a newspaper article and easily applied online. After a short time, I was invited to a taster day. This day not only gave me a better insight into the company and the profession, but also helped me to make my final decision. I was delighted when I was able to sign the contract.

On my first day, I was very nervous and excited. But the fact that four other trainees were starting at the same time as me calmed me down. After introductions and a tour of the company, I felt much more confident than before. Everyone I met was friendly and took time for us. Since the first day, all trainees have been given interesting and varied tasks that go far beyond copying and making coffee.

I feel very comfortable in the company and am looking forward to continuing on this path.

Yours, Melina

Svetlana - Training as an industrial clerk

Svetlana reports on many impressions and interesting areas of responsibility – no trace of boredom

The first few weeks of my training as an industrial clerk are already over. During this time, I learned a lot of new things and got to know a lot of new colleagues, including four other trainees. Two of them are training to become industrial clerks like me, while the other two are training to become specialist planners for technical building equipment. After discussing all the organizational matters on the first day and being given a tour of the company, we were assigned to different departments.

My first stop is the human resources and marketing department, where I will spend the next four months. I like both departments and, surprisingly, I am able to contribute more than I thought I would. In the marketing department in particular, I have already been able to complete a number of tasks, such as developing emergency plans with the help of graphics programs. I am also helping to design the new website and am responsible for content management, among other things.

The human resources department has a variety of tasks. I am responsible for data maintenance, such as entering sick days and vacation days or updating training lists. One special feature of the human resources department is that everything must be treated with the utmost confidentiality, as it involves sensitive employee data. In addition to the many new impressions I have gained from the company, vocational school started a week ago. I attend twice a week during my first year of training. There I learn all the theoretical content such as accounting, business administration, and many other topics.

We also had a seminar on motivation in collaboration with the Techniker Krankenkasse health insurance company.
All in all, I can give a positive summary of my first few weeks and am excited to see what else awaits me.
I look forward to sharing more impressions and experiences with you soon.

Yours, Svetlana

Armagan - Training as an industrial clerk

Armagan's journey to the Data Center Group – enthusiasm from day one

My name is Armagan Gümüsbas, I am 20 years young and currently in my first year of training as an industrial clerk. I would like to tell you how I ended up at the Data Center Group.

Last year, I graduated from high school and asked myself, “What should I do next?” I'm sure some of you will ask yourselves this question after graduating, because at the end of the day, you have to make a decision that will determine the rest of your life. I took my time to find the right answer to this question. During this time, I did a lot of research and also completed several internships with the aim of finding something I really enjoy doing. After a long search and a lot of research, I came across the industrial clerk training program. Now I knew what I wanted to do. The only question that remained was, “At which company?” I looked around for vacancies in the area and finally found what I was looking for. It was the Data Center Group, with a vacant training position for an industrial clerk.

I immediately studied the website and began to learn about the company.  My first impression was very positive. I was immediately enthusiastic about what the Data Center Group does: planning and building data centers. Data centers are essential in the age of digitalization and also have great future potential when you look at the international market. That was one of the reasons why I decided to apply to the Data Center Group. I started writing my application that same day and sent it off as soon as possible. Now it was time to wait, or so I thought, because I received a response immediately and was able to sign my training contract shortly thereafter.

Yours, Armagan

Melina - industrial clerk

Melina's first weeks at the Data Center Group—interesting tasks and friendly colleagues

Hello, my name is Melina Mogrovejo Sanchez and I am training as an industrial clerk at the Data Center Group. I am currently working in the purchasing department.

The first few weeks of my training were very exciting for me, as I gained lots of new impressions and got to know everything from scratch. On my first day, I was given a warm welcome, just like all the other trainees. We were given a nice welcome folder and an introduction, which I really enjoyed.

When I joined my first department, Purchasing, the area and other relevant aspects of the training were carefully explained to me. Right from the start, I was allowed to work independently on my own small tasks. At first, we received instruction and training on important programs such as Outlook, Excel, and our AP+ system, as well as on mail processing, which is an important task for the company. All trainees also took part in a seminar on the topic of “motivation,” which strengthened the relationship between the trainees, as we were able to work together there. I really enjoyed the seminar, as it allowed me to get to know all the other trainees better.

My tasks became a little more difficult from day to day, but not too complicated too quickly, so that I was always able to keep up and was not overwhelmed. If I have any questions, my supervisor Hannah Eiben and all my other colleagues are always there to help me. This means that any uncertainties can be cleared up immediately. I always feel well supported and never left alone. I feel very welcome here and am glad that I started my training at the Data Center Group.

Yours, Melina

Rafael - Industrial clerk

As a third-year apprentice, Rafael can provide many exciting insights—a jack of all trades rather than a girl Friday.

Hello! My name is Rafael Seitz, I am 24 years old, and this is my first post on the trainee blog. I started my training as an industrial clerk on August 1, 2020, and am now in the final stages of my three-year training program. Today, I would like to tell you about my career path so far and my current position.
Why industrial clerk?
Even when I was at school, I knew that I wanted to work in an office. To acquire some basic knowledge in advance, I went to a vocational school, where I completed my commercial assistant qualification. Back to the question: Why industrial clerk? The biggest advantage is that you get to work in all departments during your training. At the end of the training, you can then weigh up which areas of the company you like best and which are not among your favorites. You will pass through departments such as financial accounting, purchasing, service, human resources, marketing, and project management. Instead of being a “jack of all trades,” you are more of an all-rounder between different areas.

My current tasks:

I currently work in project management. This gives me a good insight into various projects and the areas in which our technicians work. My weekly tasks include processing inquiries, booking hotels for our technicians, preparing cost coverage statements, tracking technicians' hours in our ERP system, preparing project handover reports, general maintenance of project documentation, and a few other tasks. Of course, filing also needs to be done from time to time...

Workspace and equipment for a good start

Of course, it's also a bit stressful to change departments every four months. You have to pack up all your monitors, documents, computers, mouse, and keyboard and set them up in a new place. But fortunately, this is not the case for us, because all our employees receive their own work laptop at the start, which they can also use privately for school, making the move to the new department a breeze. During the coronavirus pandemic, it was even possible to work from home. Thanks to Microsoft Teams, it was possible to call the instructor, share your screen, and discuss tasks.

School

Vocational school takes place once a week. There we learn a lot about general economics, business processes, commercial management and control, English, German, and a little bit of sports. In the first year of training, you have school twice a week, in the second year once a week and twice every other week, and in the third year only once a week.

Yours, Rafael
