DC IT Shielding Room

Shielding for server rooms

Protect the confidentiality of your strategic data!

DC IT Room Shielding creates a fully shielded environment for all IT systems operated within the room. The walls, floor, and ceiling form a continuous structure that minimizes external influences and protects sensitive systems.

The shielding in the DC IT Container is particularly well-suited for government facilities, critical infrastructure, or highly sensitive IT areas.

Typical applications

Shielded server rooms are used wherever particularly high security requirements apply:

  • critical infrastructure, particularly government agencies and security, military, and defense facilities
  • Research and development environments
  • ibm-security
    particularly sensitive corporate data centers

Customization to fit buildings and infrastructure

The design can be precisely adapted to existing buildings and technical requirements.

Additional layer of security for critical applications

For applications with high requirements for availability and data security, the shielding provides additional protection.

Construction of shielded rooms

Our shielded rooms are constructed from metal panels that are joined together to form a closed structure.

We use galvanized steel panels with a thickness of approximately two millimeters, as these provide high stability and reliable protection.

Depending on the project requirements, the structure can be assembled using a modular design or welded directly together.

Technical Implementation of Room Shielding

The metal structure of a room-in-room data center forms the basis for a closed electromagnetic shielding enclosure. This creates a fully shielded IT area within existing buildings, reliably protecting sensitive systems from electromagnetic interference and unwanted radiation.

The shielding is provided by a continuously conductive room structure made of high-quality, galvanized steel panels approximately two millimeters thick. This construction combines high mechanical stability with effective shielding across a broad frequency spectrum.

Special attention is paid to the implementation of all openings and interfaces. Doors, ventilation elements, and media and cable penetrations are technically controlled and integrated, and conductively incorporated into the shielding structure. Only the precise interaction of all components ensures a permanently closed Faraday structure and thus reliable electromagnetic shielding.

Depending on project requirements, DC IT Shielding for room-in-room data centers can be implemented in various configurations.

Modular panel systems

Prefabricated steel modules are bolted together and electrically connected via special contact surfaces. Precisely manufactured flanges and conductive contact mesh create a uniform, RF-tight connection between the individual panels. The modular system allows for flexible integration into existing buildings as well as quick and cost-effective installation.

Welded steel structures

For particularly demanding applications, the steel panels can be welded directly to one another. This construction method ensures a permanently conductive connection without mechanical contact points and provides maximum shielding performance. It is particularly suitable for safety-critical applications, industrial environments, or spaces subject to increased climatic or mechanical stresses.

Load-bearing steel structure

For larger spatial solutions or freestanding installations, a self-supporting steel structure can be used. This structure bears the loads from the wall and ceiling elements of the canopy and allows for a spatial design that is independent of the building. At the same time, additional installations such as HVAC systems, cable trays, or technical infrastructure can be safely integrated.

Shielding-Komponenten

In addition to the shield structure itself, numerous technical components are required to create a shielded enclosure.

Shielded doors consist of a metallic construction with special contact mechanisms that create a continuous conductive connection to the shielding structure when closed. During opening and closing, the contact surfaces clean themselves automatically, ensuring permanently reliable operation.

Depending on the application, different door types can be used, such as hinged or sliding doors.

Ventilation must also be integrated into the shielding concept. For this purpose, special honeycomb ventilation elements are used. These consist of a structure of metallic waveguides that allow airflow while attenuating electromagnetic signals.

Power, data, and media lines must also be routed through the shielding structure in a controlled manner. For this purpose, special feedthroughs or so-called feed-through panels are used. These allow the integration of power cables, fiber-optic connections, or data lines without impairing the shielding performance.

Surface shielding

Depending on the requirements, different materials can be used for surface shielding:

  • Shielding cabins made of 2 mm galvanized steel form a closed Faraday structure and reliably protect against electromagnetic radiation across high frequency ranges.
  • Prefabricated steel modules allow the cabin to be installed quickly and adapted or expanded to meet individual room and project requirements.
  • Corrosion-protected steel sheets and precisely manufactured connection systems ensure high stability, long-term tightness, and reliable operation in daily use.

Kupferfolie
  • Copper foil with a thickness of 0.2–0.3 mm achieves shielding attenuation of >100 dB in the frequency range from 30 MHz to 10 GHz.
  • Continuous, lead-free soft soldering creates a closed and particularly dense shielding enclosure.
  • The tightly soldered copper construction simultaneously acts as a reliable vapor barrier from a building physics perspective.

Verified shielding performance

Our shielding solutions provide tested and guaranteed shielding performance. Each solution is validated through precise shielding attenuation measurements (verification measurement and acceptance measurement) conducted by the German Federal Office for Information Security (BSI).
