dy-pack Verpackungen Gustav Dyckerhoff GmbH, based in Wenden near Olpe in South Westphalia, has been producing innovative and environmentally friendly packaging for the construction, chemical and food industries for more than 50 years. The medium-sized company with an annual turnover of 60 million euros and around 240 employees is the technology leader with various patents for paper sacks and sells over 150 million packaging units per year.

The company is striving to drive forward digitalization and to digitalize and automate its processes. For this reason, dy-Pack Verpackungen was looking for a backup data center. This should be a safeguard against possible failures.

"A system failure also leads to a loss of production. Production orders cannot be executed, which would cost us money. At the same time, we are now better prepared for the threat of ransomware. In the event of a possible ransomware attack, we can then make three servers available to the forensic experts to solve the problem and at the same time have three more servers to maintain day-to-day operations," says Andreas Cordes, Head of IT and CIO of dy-Pack Verpackungen.

The Data Center Group (DCG) won the contract from the packaging specialist against other providers due to the overall technical package surrounding a new Micro Data Center (DC IT Safe). DCG impressed with the master-slave principle, in which the two systems exchange each other when power is low, as well as the integrated monitoring system.

The company's IT landscape had grown organically over the years. As all business processes run via the data center, a functioning IT system is essential.

"We sell our products and have to buy them ourselves. We have a document management system so that we can work with as little paper as possible. In addition to production planning, production also runs digitally. We also communicate with customers and suppliers as well as firewalls, proxies and data backup. Everything runs via our IT," explains Cordes.

The Data Center Group took over the planning and installation of the data center with a subsequent service and maintenance contract. The installation was carried out during ongoing operations within just 4 days.

"I am happy to have DCG as a partner. The course of the project was very relaxed," summarizes Andreas Cordes succinctly.
