Container data centers

The future of flexible IT infrastructure
News | 05.01.2025

Digitalization and the increasing demand for scalable IT resources have fundamentally changed the requirements for modern data centers. Today, companies of all sizes need IT infrastructures that are robust but also flexible, mobile and quickly ready for use. In this context, container data centers such as the DC IT Container from the Data Center Group (DCG) offer a future-proof solution that is characterized by high cost efficiency, sustainability and scalability.

Flexibility and mobility

One of the biggest advantages of container data centers is their mobility. These preconfigured, transportable modules can be quickly deployed at different locations. They are the ideal choice for companies that require flexible or temporary IT solutions - whether on construction sites, for temporary projects, short-term relocations or when space is at a premium. Once on site, container data centers are ready for operation within a very short space of time, allowing IT capacities to be expanded immediately.

Their flexibility is another decisive advantage: companies can move, scale or convert the containers as required to meet changing business requirements. This flexibility of the IT infrastructure means that companies always have security of investment. This is particularly attractive for growing companies or dynamic projects.
The cooling, power supply and energy management systems have a modular design, which guarantees trouble-free, independent operation. This allows companies to scale their infrastructure and adapt it to growing requirements without unnecessary overconfiguration.

Scalability and efficiency for growing businesses

The modular design allows users to provision exactly the capacity they need, resulting in long-term energy savings and lower operating costs. This means IT resources can be provisioned on demand, reducing COâ‚‚ emissions while significantly reducing planning and construction time.
Organizations can grow their IT infrastructure gradually by adding container modules that seamlessly integrate with existing systems. This not only reduces construction time compared to traditional data centers, but also allows for customized solutions to meet individual needs.
The integration of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) modules in N+1 configurations also enables greater cost efficiency and stability. Customizable cooling and fire protection systems provide additional efficiency and safety, allowing businesses to benefit from sustainable operations as well as maximum flexibility and scalability.

Choice of location as a key factor

The DC IT Container is highly adaptable in terms of location. The containers can be placed almost anywhere and provide a secure environment for IT infrastructures. Whether outdoors, on company premises or in hard-to-reach areas. Their robust construction is designed to withstand extreme weather and atmospheric conditions, be it heat, cold, heavy rain or high humidity. The rugged construction and comprehensive protection measures ensure that IT systems are always optimally protected and functional, regardless of location. As a result, DC IT Containers provide a flexible and secure solution for organizations that need to adapt their infrastructure to different conditions and environments.

Sustainability and green solutions in containers

Container data centers offer not only cost benefits, but also environmental benefits. Modern containers are equipped with energy-saving technologies such as free cooling and the use of natural refrigerants to minimize energy consumption. These measures allow companies to reduce their carbon footprint and comply with stringent environmental regulations.
The recyclability and modularity of these containers further enhance their sustainability. Companies can modify, adapt or completely reuse containers as needed. This sustainable approach provides a future-proof investment in a green IT infrastructure.

High cost efficiency and rapid deployment

Container data centers offer high cost efficiency. Compared to traditional data centers, planning and construction costs are significantly lower. Thanks to their pre-configured design, container data centers can be installed and operational in a very short time. This enables companies to respond quickly to market changes and adapt their IT capacity on short notice.
The cost-effective design is also reflected in the integration of dedicated UPS modules. Static and modular UPS systems in various power classes with internal or external batteries and possible redundancy can be selected and equipped according to customer requirements. By reducing the number of IT racks and optimizing power distribution, operating costs can be permanently reduced. The integration of an efficient ceiling cooling system also helps to reduce energy consumption.

IT Security Certifications

A key advantage of container solutions is their comprehensive standard of protection for the IT infrastructure. The DC IT Container complies with strict European standards and therefore offers a high level of security on several levels. Fire protection in accordance with ECB-S certification and DIN EN 1047-2 is optionally available for all container solutions. This ensures that hardware is protected even in the event of a fire, thus guaranteeing the continuity of critical IT data. To protect against burglary and unauthorized access, the container is equipped in accordance with DIN EN 1627 and protects the IT against physical security risks. Explosion protection in accordance with DIN EN 13123-2 and DIN EN 13124-2 also ensures the resilience of IT systems even in extreme situations. In addition, the container offers reliable water and dust protection in accordance with DIN EN 60529, minimizing the risk of damage from environmental influences.

Fully welded containers provide additional protection. They provide a high level of safety and durability. The sealed design provides reliable protection against dust, water and other external influences. It also allows for efficient climate control, optimized energy management, and improved transportability.

Robust and secure design

Containerized data centers combine ruggedness and reliability in a compact design. Special shielding solutions, which can be optionally installed as needed, protect the sensitive electronics from electromagnetic interference that can occur near industrial equipment or other strong signal sources. These shields ensure stable data processing and prevent failures or interference. In addition, shock-resistant designs ensure that transport and operation are possible even under difficult conditions. The optimal distribution of floor and standing loads keeps them safe and secure. A durable paint finish provides additional protection against possible deterioration. Optionally, security can be further enhanced with a security fence and concrete blocks.

The Future of IT Infrastructure

Container datacenters are a flexible and mobile solution for today's IT infrastructure and a future-proof investment for tomorrow. Their scalability and ability to adapt to new technological developments, such as artificial intelligence (AI) and edge computing, make them an ideal choice for businesses looking for a sustainable, flexible and investment-proof IT infrastructure. By integrating modular systems, enterprises can implement customized solutions that reduce operating costs while increasing efficiency. As a result, container datacenters are setting a new standard in the IT industry and will play an increasingly important role in the years to come.

DCG's container solutions offer a wide range of options to meet the needs of our customers.
