In the run-up to the project, our Spanish partner SOCORED drew up a concept for the General Directorate for Technological Innovation and Development of the Regional Government of the Balearic Islands in Mallorca to restructure, increase efficiency and enhance the security of the customer's own data center. Since many small and medium-sized technology companies are hosted here, the issue of security and data availability is of particular importance.
On the basis of this concept, a tender was launched in which a whole series of competitors took part. Our partner participated directly, not via a general contractor as is usually the case.
In addition to an ECB-S certified modular high-security room, the scope of services of our partner SOCORED included the complete planning and execution of the entire data center infrastructure with the trades UPS, power supply/distribution, air conditioning, early fire detection and extinguishing technology. Maintenance and service activities will also be carried out later by our Spanish partner SOCORED.
In a tough competition, also due to the narrowness of the Spanish market and the problems, even insolvencies of well-known integrators and JVs in the course of the last three years, and associated fighting prices of the remaining market competitors, we finally succeeded in winning the contract due to the best price-performance ratio and the most modern and space-efficient solution of the Data Center Products.
Here, too, we had to accept a tight schedule, but we managed to do so thanks to the energetic support of all internal departments. Despite timely delivery and start of installation by Data Center Products, however, the installation could not be completed in December as planned due to organizational problems on the part of the customer; instead, the 105 m² ECB-S room was not completed until February 2016 in cooperation with SOCORED.
Another data center of the same carrier with an ECB-S room is in the room, so that the customer then has a highly secure main data center, a highly secure backup data center and a normally secured recovery data center. This means that the important data of the hosted customers, which also includes irretrievable research data, is comprehensively secured and housed so that it is available at all times.
