Achenbach Buschhütten GmbH & Co. KG is a company with more than 570 years of history. Over the centuries, the company has specialized in forging work with a water-driven iron hammer and, since 1888, in machine and plant construction for metal processing. Achenbach Buschhütten has developed into a leading company, especially in the field of rolling mill technology for aluminum. Today, Achenbach is the global market leader for rolling mills, slitting lines and process engineering systems, especially for high-precision and ultra-thin aluminum foils, which are used in the battery and packaging industries, among others. Achenbach's machines are fully networked via a specially developed digital portal to achieve continuously improved production quality, including the use of AI technology. The company currently employs around 500 people and, in addition to its site in Buschhütten, has two other sites near Aachen, Germany, and in the Czech Republic, as well as service locations worldwide.
With increasing digitalization and growing demands for IT security, a new data center was part of Achenbach's plans. The IT infrastructure needed to be not only more powerful, but also more secure and reliable. After a comprehensive evaluation of various providers, Achenbach Buschhütten chose Data Center Group (DCG) as its partner for the construction of the new data center. "The decisive factor for this choice was the combination of technical expertise, professional advice and regional proximity, which enabled close cooperation and efficient implementation," explains Sebastian Groos, COO & CIO of Achenbach Buschhütten.
The decision was made to build the data center in a container design, the DC IT Container. This solution allows the company to operate independently of existing buildings and enables rapid implementation without disrupting existing production and administrative processes. The container solution also offers a high degree of scalability and flexibility for future expansion.
There were some scheduling challenges during the implementation of the project, but these were successfully overcome in collaboration with DCG. The turnkey delivery of the data center ensured that the company could immediately benefit from the new infrastructure. An additional maintenance contract guarantees the secure and reliable operation of the data center in the long term.
Thanks to the implementation of the new data center, sensitive company data is now optimally protected and the IT infrastructure is ideally equipped for future requirements. "The new data center provides optimal conditions for our high-performance server components. We are very pleased to be able to continuously develop our IT in this environment," summarizes Ercan Tüylü, the responsible IT administrator at Achenbach. In addition to its technical strengths, the data center also offers economic and organizational advantages by creating a stable basis for the company's digital transformation. Thanks to a groundbreaking cooling method that uses water, the company is also positioning itself sustainably in terms of its IT infrastructure. As a result, the company has not only reached another milestone in its century-long history, but has also established a future-proof solution for the challenges of sustainable digitalization.
